Location: Ruislip, UK Property Type: House, Kitchen Project Type: Interior Design, Building 7 Months We were asked to create a kitchen space positioned in a new and larger location to the existing kitchen, and incorporate a new orangery extension at the rear of the property, which we were contracted to build. The clients are big on cooking, and therefore a tailored kitchen was essential. We needed to design a kitchen layout that was practical and well-equipped for frequent use. The clients also required seating for a large family, and a comfortable area for watching TV. The concept for this project was to keep it quite natural, in keeping with the property and location of the house, which we achieved by using a range of different textures and finishes. We proposed a beautiful wood veneer for the carcass of the kitchen units, combined with sprayed door fronts, stainless steel plinths and handle details, a composite white grainy stone worktop, and textured porcelain tile splashback. For the floor we used a European oiled wide oak board. The existing space of the proposed kitchen was a lounge and dining room joined by two large sliding glass panel doors, which we later re-used for the entrance into the orangery from a second lounge. The new kitchen and TV area was created by removing a structural wall and external walls. This space connected onto the new orangery with a large lantern roof light above. This project had some very difficult and intricate structural steel work which we had designed by our structural engineer to suit our requirements. The structural work included supporting and pinning the main house before removing the main structural wall and corner of the existing property. We had to install the largest steelwork that we have ever had to work with on a private house. The clients really required a lot of storage in their kitchen, however as the wall space was rather minimal due to the staircase and also the kitchen window, we managed to achieve a lot of the storage in the kitchen base units and island. Each unit was tailor-designed and positioned practically to the clients’ needs. We carried out all of the building works, decoration, design and space-planning for this project, including all sourcing of FF&E and soft-furnishings such as the curtains and blinds. "Primrose Interiors provided us with an excellent full-range, design-to-implementation service. The engagement with us was friendly and well balanced between advice and consultation. The high quality mood boards captured the discussions beautifully but allowed changes and options at all points and the designs were exciting with wonderful materials and colour schemes. With the building element, the workforce is highly competent and clean and tidy with very high levels of good building practice. The final outcome was special with a high quality level of fitting, materials and products whether sourced or proprietary. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone looking for high quality and distinctive design." – Alison & Alan W.
